Golf

"I first consider how a man has to walk a course to play it. You consider the desirability of the location and make it a point to eliminate blind par-3 holes. Make them so you play a 3-iron and up and with slightly sloping greens that hold a shot. I try to make my par 5s sufficiently difficult, tight fairways with bunkers." - Ellis Maples

Gaston Country Club boasts an Ellis Maples 18-hole golf course originally opened for play in 1958. By utilizing the natural lay of the land, the routing of the golf course is very golfer friendly. One can play championship style golf from the back tees all the way up to our junior tees appropriately placed in the fairway areas. The golf course underwent a restoration in 2003 & 2004 by architect Kris Spence and is ranked in North Carolina’s Top 100 Golf Courses. Gaston Country Club hosts many member tournaments and has been selected as the site for many outside events including the Wells Fargo Championship qualifiers, N.C. Women's Amateur, various CGA events and large group outings.

The A-4 bentgrass greens and 419 tees and fairways are in top condition and offer golfers a great place to play daily. The course's properly placed bunkering brings the "risk-reward" factor into play. One must use strategic shot placement in order to take advantage of the great angles for the approach shot into the greens. Once you arrive onto the greens, you will find tournament quality turf throughout your entire round. As you arrive on the 18th tee you will get an exhilarating view of the clubhouse and grounds that will bring you back again and again. The golf facilities also offer a multi-directional range facility, practice and chipping areas and a professional shop stocked with the latest in clothing and equipment.
